Woodworking Guidelines
Each school is allowed to enter an unlimited number of students, male or female, per Division.
Each student may submit 1 entry for either Woodworking OR Arts & Crafts - ie – if a student enters a Woodworking entry they may not enter an Arts & Crafts entry.
CABINETMAKING & WOODWORKING
Items include, but are not restricted to, such as are listed below. All entries should be honouring to the Lord.
EXAMPLES – bookcase, tool caddy, bird house, serving tray, dog house, bird feeder, shelf, stool, sofa table, curio cabinet, coffee table, end table
Woodworking entries will be those entries made of wood and entirely by the student.
Any painted wood projects should be entered under Arts & Crafts.
The student will receive points for submitting a design on paper and being able to complete the final product.
The design can be from a book or developed by the student himself.
It is important to clearly identify components purchased and portions made by others so we can clearly judge the student’s work.
All submissions will be judged based on the following: creativity; design; balance; colour; function; accuracy to the design; workmanship; potential marketability.
Judges will keep in mind the age of the student when judging the entry.
Please bring 2 copies of the Judge’s Form for Arts & Crafts and Woodworking with you to Convention. Please be sure to fill these out in their entirety. If the Judging Forms are not filled out, you will not be judged.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
Projects must be made of wood. Any appropriate screws, hinges, fasteners, locks, slides, glass, etc., that are required to bring the project to a functional completion are acceptable.
Any added mechanical parts (hinges, locks, slides, glass, etc.) will not be judged, but the fitting of them to the project will be judged.
All work must be the sole work of the student, and projects must have been started after the completion of the previous Student Convention.
All entries must be accompanied by a pattern and a typed project report (doublespaced) listing the steps of construction and tools used. Any variation from the pattern must be explained in the report.
Any project wired for electricity must meet UL standards.
No weapons of any kind are acceptable. No work should attempt to portray the face of Christ.
Craft items such as miniature toys or models or pre-cut kits are not acceptable.
Adding pictures / diagrams showing the progress of your project as it evolves, shows extra effort and will help your score in this event.
