Introduction
PURPOSE
Christian Student Convention has 3 basic aims:
- To glorify God
- To promote standards of excellence
- To encourage fellowship and friendship among Christian youth
God’s Word states that Christian youth should not only be different from the world (Romans 12:1, 2) but should also set the standard of excellence! Preparation for Convention will help your students develop skills and attitudes that can prepare them to serve the Lord in whatever job or ministry He’s created them to do.
Seeking to achieve these goals, we have eliminated competition among participants in all but a few events, such as Sports events, Spelling, and Bible Quiz. Instead, each participant will compete against a standard and will be rewarded according to how she or he measures up to that standard. In each event there could be several participants, or no participants, who receive the gold.
All judging forms will rate the participant on a scale of 1 – 100 with the following receiving ribbons:
- 93 – 100 = gold ribbon
- 85 – 92 = silver ribbon
- 78 – 84 = bronze ribbon
AWARDS
Awards are for contestants only. All awards are presented at the evening Rally on Friday.
THE OUTSTANDING STUDENT AWARD
This award is given to the student in your church / school with the highest average. All participants representing your church will be eligible for the Outstanding Student Award but those students who have entered at least 5 or more events with 2 of those events in platform events will be considered first.
THE AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
This award will go to the student who, out of all the churches / schools entered, has the highest average and who has entered 5 or more events with 2 or more of those events being in platform categories. There is one Award of Excellence for Division “A” and one Award of Excellence for Division “B.” This award will only be available for those students who have entered 2 or more platform events.
PREPARATION
Participation in Student Convention should require months of planning and practice. This is a tremendous opportunity to teach character through careful setting of goals and preparation rather than procrastination. While exciting to receive, the awards should not be the main focus of Convention.
As you prepare, pray for each student that they will receive all that God has for them to learn through Convention. Pray that their lives will be transformed and that many will commit their lives to His service.
